Mindfulness is my passion and while I have many roles in life, business owner, mother, massage therapist, yoga therapist, life coach, health and wellness coach, yoga studio owner, meditation teacher, all of them are built around the pillar of mindfulness.
Why is mindfulness so important to me?
One day in my early twenties I was sitting out front of my favorite coffee shop in San Francisco reading the paper. I was in such a dark place, my high school boyfriend and what seemed like the love of my life had suddenly passed away, I was aimless and depressed, but also experiencing that wide open awareness that comes with crushing loss. I came a cross an article in the daily paper about Thich Nhat Hanh, the Zen master/activist/mindfulness teacher. The article mentioned his monastery in the south of France. I knew at the moment that the only way I was going to piece myself back together was to go to plum village, sit with Thich Nhat Hanh (or Thay as his students call him) and begin to understand the space the loss created in me, why I was suffering so deeply, and find a road map to a brighter place, a new place. To say that my time at Plum village and with Thay changed me is an understatement. Meditation and mindfulness gave me a framework to process the early childhood trauma I experienced from growing up in a household deeply affected by addiction and depression, it gave me the framework to process the crushing losses of the men in my life that I had loved, my father when I was young and my high school sweetheart. It took me from a place that was swirling in every moment but the present, a swamp of depressive thoughts of the past and anxious thoughts of the future, and lead me to a place of moment to moment appreciation where I could feel and appreciate peace. It gave me my life back, it was a gift that my teacher Thay gave me, and I knew then that I needed to share it with you.
Mindfulness has seen me through, the death of loved ones, the birth of two children, mothering, a cancer diagnosis, an anxiety diagnosis, recovery, chronic illness, marriage, aging parents…you name it. Life happens, and its messy, and through it all mindfulness has been the bedrock of my sanity, it has been the glue that holds me together, it has been the space between that allows me to see just how beautiful and precious life is. It has allowed me to thrive in the face of adversity and find joy. I want to help you find the sweetness, joy and focus that mindfulness can bring to you life.
